What is Human Intelligent Augmentation?
Human Intelligence Augmentation defines the crucial role that Artificial Intelligence plays in augmenting human intelligence. AI will not change the human brain but augment it like machines augment human muscle power.
Artificial intelligence already surpasses the human brain in several ways. Yet, together, they are more powerful than either could ever be alone.
1) Human Intelligence Augmentation – Origin
In 1962, Douglas Engelbart introduced the world to Human Intelligence Augmentation. Instead of technology replacing humans, Engelbart’s dream was a symbiotic relationship, where computers would extend our intellectual capabilities. While the technology of the time couldn’t realize this idea, today, we are at a point to make a reality, what was impossible back then.
Artificial Intelligence is becoming the most powerful tool humanity has ever created. Together with human intelligence, it will be more powerful than any of the two alone.
Human Intelligence Augmentation defines the crucial role that Artificial Intelligence plays in augmenting human intelligence. AI will not change the human brain but augment it like machines augment human muscle power.
2) Essence of intelligence
Intelligence is the ability to solve problems that we have never confronted before through thinking and constructing solutions in our minds. But there are many other ways to describe intelligence. In today’s world, we even form several types of intelligence. While humans possess unparalleled creative problem-solving abilities, our capacity to handle very complex problems is limited. Yet, we built organizations, structures, political systems, legal constructs and much more that have grown to a degree that has outgrown our intellectual capacity. This is where Generative AI can abstract complex problems and help us to deal with them like we deal today with gigantic numbers, can travel at 100 times the speed we can walk and lift 1,000 times and more of our own weight.
3) Will AI replace jobs?
Yes, it will. There is no question. It is the same process as in the last 500+ years. There are no more Carriage Makers, Slubber Doffers, Pin Setters, Knocker Uppers, Lamp Lighters, Switchboard Operators, and countless other jobs. We will have fewer and fewer jobs as analysts, bookkeepers, assistants, bank tellers, financial controllers, and so forth. AI will take over those and many others. HOWEVER, we need people who instruct, manage, and oversee the tasks those agents and other AI mechanisms will do. In this example, analysts lose their “job” of doing those rather mediocre, repetitive tasks and evolve into managers managing 5, 10, or more AI agents. Like always in the past, they do more in less time. That way they will deal with AI agents and create results that we can’t get today. Financial Controllers will oversee and tweak AI system results to a degree that is not even imaginable today. We will use Human Intelligence Augmentation wherever our own intelligence fades out – no matter if we have a lot or not so much of it. Every human intelligence level will benefit from that technology and advance.
What a crane did to human muscle power without touching the muscle – will AI do to the human intellectual power without touching it. The larger part of humanity will do new jobs and thrive. very much like during the industrial revolution, where we went from 80% worked in food production – today it is less than 3%.
4) How Human Intelligence Augmentation works
First of all it does not touch or change your brain, like a crane does not touch or change our muscles, but allows is to lift a ton of goods right in front of us. And HIAtec, is an AI system that is built to augment our intelligence. If you are asked to write a business plan for the first time you look at many other business plans and pick some that seems to match the requirement and copy one that is closest. Then you fill in the content and done. HOWEVER, this is most likely not the best plan and not very intelligent. If you are one of the most experienced managers with globally recognized top results you would craft a business plan that fits the company, its goals and objectives in the best possible way. An AI can do that too. So why not tell the AI what you really want, who you want to outperform and what your idea of a market leader in your business would be? It would create you a plan that will almost always be better than what you can do. You just augmented your intelligence with an AI. Now you do just that with every task you have at hand. The combination of you and the AI will in almost all cases be better than the results that you do on your own, it will also be much faster and you can do many additional more intelligent jobs than you do today.
BlueCallom is determined to ensure that their Agentic AI solutions are 100% in line with the Human Intelligence Augmentation principle: Augment the Human Intelligence with AI to a degree that their work increaes in value so that businesses can leverage the gain in their business for growth or advancement – not for reducing employees.
5) The dawn of HIAtec
Several technologies are pushing the boundaries of Human Intelligence Augmentation. Among these is Neuro-AI-Fusion, which leverages insights from neuroscience to activate brain triggers, that are enhancing human thinking. We’re also seeing advancements in Generative AI and Large Language Models, enabling a higher level of creativity and processing capabilities. Remember, the AI tools that are transforming industries today are augmentations of our abilities, just like vehicles or cranes have been in the past. As we gaze into the future, Human Intelligence Augmentation Technology (HIAtec) promises innovations in record times, individualized learning experiences, and solutions to big challenges like space colonization or environmental crises.
6) Smart Business Operations
The business landscape is changing, with a demand for easing operational workflows, increase in productivity, eliminating repeatable tasks from a job description, decreasing skill gaps and many other improvements. Human Intelligence Augmentation has the potential to revolutionize the entire world of business processes. For instance, managers and office workers can delegate a significant part of their daily routines to AI systems. Moreover, with HIAtec, businesses can offer personalized customer experiences, optimize human resources, and foresee supply chain disruptions, giving them an unparalleled competitive edge. And similarly employees can get rid of repeating boring jobs and unleash their creativity in creating new opportunities, more individualize the customer experience, bring more variety into the product and service offerings and create stronger competitive advantages. In that environment, predictions get more accurate and complexity is reduced in complicated processes.
7) First Human Intelligence Augmentation Today
A very timely example is the challenge of getting AI into all areas of a business to reduce the workload where employees are not best qualified and delegate those tasks to machines. The time gain allows everybody to do more creative work and increase ingenuity notably. Machines will need to be managed and in a way, everybody can become a manager. Managing machines by delegating all kinds of work like research, report writing, documentation, review processes, validations, and much more to AI-driven systems does not require expertise nor does it require management skills necessary to manage people. But it is not only replacing routine jobs. The other end of the work job are overly complex processes or tasks like creating beak through innovations. While most teams in larger organizations fail an Autonomous AI Solution dedicated to breakthrough innovation is able to do that task with a much smaller team in days or maybe weeks – but not years. Teams with even top intelligence levels get inspired and augment their brain capacity with HIAtec already today. Here you can find some Autonomous AI Solutions that are built with the HIAtec design.
8) The rise of Super Humans
Even though Human Intelligent Augmentation does not touch the brain or involve any medical or other modulations, it gives humans superpowers relative to others. It allows individuals and teams to do things that were impossible before – and do it exceptionally fast. Again, the first people who drove a car could span distances nobody else could before. Or people could fly what was impossible before the inception of the first planes. Leveraging AI and tell it what the problem is and not only getting an answer but an entire solution and even letting the AI create the solution is now on its long journey to a world unimaginable for most of us.
Every major deviation from the “normal” will be questioned by a majority and only supported by a minority. Human Controlled AI is no difference. We are working exclusively with that minority today. Today we just set it in motion. Together we will rapidly learn and evolve – because there is not even an alternative. Axel Schultze, CEO

10) Conclusion
Human Intelligent Augmentation isn’t about machines replacing humans or controlling us in a technology-dominated age. It’s about embracing technology to enhance human abilities and forging a collaborative future. Through Human Intelligence Augmentation, we’re charting a path to a future where people are able to do more complex task than they could otherwise manage. Embracing this collaboration doesn’t just redefine our work or learning; it reshapes our very essence in a digital age. As we venture into this intertwined future of human-machine collaboration, we will realize that Human Intelligence Augmentation is also a way to protect humans from machine domination. HIAtec is giving us the power to fight machine dominance with equally intelligent machines on our side PLUS the added human intelligence, purpose driven minds, creativity and so forth.
In the past, machines helped us lift tons of weight, build skyscrapers, cars, refrigerators and thousands of other products, because we did not have enough humans to build it all. This time, it isn’t augmenting our muscle power but our brain power. And even with all humans on earth we would not be able to terraform Mars and other planets even if we had all the robots we can imagine. We need to extend the brain power from all of us if we once going to populate the universe.
